Balatonfüred-Csopak

The wine region extends on the northern shore of the lake Balaton. The combination of red and white soils gives a special charm to the landscape.

Traditional white-wine grapes of the region are the Welsh-Riesling, Rhine-Riesling, Riesling-sylvaner, Traminer, Muscat Ottonel and further on Sauvignon Blanc, Chardonnay in the last few decades.

Red wine will be produced only exceptionally: the rose wines of Dörgicse are uncial in this region, their production started only in the last few years (based upon Blue-frankish, Merlot, Zweigelt grapes).

Two independent wine-styles can be distinguished in the region. The wines of the Balatonfüred sub-region have a bigger body, extract and a "fiery" character. These wine are described by experts of refine taste as having a cent of mignonette.

The Rieslings of the Csopak sub-region are typically elegant, have a complex spectrum of acids, but never aggressive ones. The wines are "distant-keeping", reserved here, and if one suspects the same alcohol content and acidity, as in the Balatonfüred sub-region, the Csopak wines are relatively lighter and more "slender". This "grace" is not the same, as in the case of wines from sandy and loess ground, but it is a result of buoyant and lively acids. It is not accidental that the Welsh Riesling of the Csopak-Bereghát vineyard can be compared only with the great-format Zieslings of the Balaton area, e. g. with that of the Szent György Hill. The wines from the surroundings of Dörgicse, Zánka and Akali are somewhat more robust and "fiery".
